About Our Teens

Survey data based on student surveys conducted by the Shift Coalition of more than 1,100 students in Los Gatos and Saratoga High Schools during the period February – October, 2006. Students ranged in age from 14 to 19, but the largest portion (33%) were juniors.

92 percent said they usually choose non-alcoholic beverages when socializing or hanging out.

92 percent of those who drink said it was very easy to get alcohol.

88 percent of those who drink said they drink at someone else's home.

38 percent said they drank alcohol at least once in the past 30 days.

92 percent believe that the typical student drank alcohol in the past 30 days.

35 percent said they've attended a party at which students drank.

83 percent believe the typical student has attended a party at which students were drinking.
